Imposter Game Questions for Friends: Words That Work

You've got people coming over Friday and someone suggested playing Imposter, but now you're the one stuck coming up with the words. You tried a few off the top of your head last time and half of them flopped. “Toothbrush” was too easy and “existentialism” made everyone groan. You want words that give the imposter a fighting chance without making the round drag.

How to do it in Imposter

01

Know what makes a word good

The sweet spot is a word everyone knows but that can be described lots of ways. “Pizza” works because clues like “cheesy” or “Friday night” keep the imposter guessing, while “photosynthesis” dies fast because only one person remembers biology class.

02

Match the category to your group

Your college friends will tear through movie words, your coworkers might do better with food or travel. In the Imposter app you pick a category before each round, so grab one that fits whoever's on your couch, or mix it up round to round.

03

Let the app deal the words

Once you've picked a category, the app hands out the secret word to everyone's phone and quietly makes one person the imposter. You'll never be the friend who “accidentally” picks a word they already know.
